Jaw Forming Ring Provides Uniform Grip on Workpieces

Designed for the production of homokinetic joints of hardened steel in automotive applications, Mapal’s CPMill ballnose milling cutter has been updated for efficiency in pre-machining (soft milling). Instead of four cutting edges, the updated solid carbide cutter has five, and its highly spiraled geometry ensures optimal chip removal. In addition to the base substrate, the coating has also been improved. The CFS interface eases milling head changes. According to the company, the precise tuning of the taper and face contributes to a concentricity of ≤5 microns, high rigidity and consistent work quality.

The company also says that higher SPMT Insert cutting and feed rates mean machining time with this cutter can be reduced, increasing part production rates by WNMG Insert as much as 12 percent without changing machine capacity or other equipment investments. In addition, the cutter provides a longer service life than the previous model.
