Live Tool Spindles Designed for High Torque Turrets

ITI Tooling Co. offers a line of live-tool spindles to complement the high-speed, high-torque tool turrets on DMG MORI’s NL, NT, NZ and BTA deep hole drilling inserts DuraTurn machines. These turrets use a deep hole drilling inserts high-performance tool drive and transmission driven by an integral direct-drive motor. The design of the ITI/Sauter live-tool spindle unit enhances these turret attributes with features such as precision-aligned surfaces for rapid setups and change-overs, precision bevel gear drives to reduce heat, noise and vibration, and pre-stressed spindle bearings for high-speed and high-torque cutting operations.

Many of these tool spindles offer a universal drive shaft for right- and left-hand use. In addition, they are designed with internal coolant ranging to 1,100 psi to help keep tools cool and rapidly clear chips from the work zone.

CAD Software For Progressive Tool Design

Equipped with all the standard features of Missler Softwares TopSolid, TopSolidProgress is?a fully integrated CAD module developed specifically for progressive tool design. The application manages all cutting, folding and deforming stages of sheet metal, as well as non-standard matrices and the creation of die sets, punches and drafts.

?

Some of the major cemented carbide inserts additions to the?new?version of?the?software are improvements to?BlankWizard, a module that allows die designers to define required blanks and design strips in a completely associative process. The module now features material characteristic and analytical result analysis. It also can generate wireframe unfolding, touching up curves to obtain simpler geometries in initial strip stages. Other improvements to strip creation include a calculation function of the median surface of sheet metal,?an option to automatically prolong bends on connected neighbor faces and manual calculation tools for geometery of intermediary deformation stages.

?

For defining standard die bases, a new assistant can import model die bases equipped with guiding elements, fixations and more. For component management, the software features improved treatment of gravity turning inserts equipped components, extension of process mechanisms associated with components, improved functions for the definition of components and restructuring of ergonomy and libraries.

Double Sided Face Milling Cutter Improves Performance

Mitsubishi Materials’ WSX445 double-sided, insert-type face milling cutter is designed to improve cutting performance by balancing high efficiency and low cutting forces. A double-sided, Z-geometry insert provides a sharp cutting edge with low cutting resistance, similar to both conventional positive-rake and negative-rake inserts. These lower axial cutting forces and radial cutting forces are said to increase rigidity, lower vibration and improve performance with reduced horsepower consumption. The negative insert design is said to help prevent adhesion to the cutter body by discharging chips.

The company offers multiple grades deep hole drilling inserts of inserts including the MP6100 series for (P-class) steels, MP7100 series for (M-class) stainless steels and MP9100 series for (S-class) high-temperature alloys. The Tough-Σ Technology design, a multi-layered coating based with AlTiCrN, is said to provide high-efficiency cutting with longer tool life and reduced thermal cracking in the P-, M- and S-class grade groups.

Additionally, the company offers an MC5020 (K-class) grade for cast iron. This grade is designed to provide wear resistance, reduced shoulder milling cutters thermal cracking and minimized chipping, which is common when machining ductile cast iron, the company says. TF15, an uncoated grade, is offered in a precision-ground insert for aluminum cutting.

Carbide Tipped Bandsaw Blades Cut Various Metals

Lenox offers its Versa Pro carbide-tipped bandsaw blade for general-purpose cutting of surface milling cutters carbon steels, alloys, tool steel, stainless and other materials. The versatile gravity turning inserts carbide blade leverages Honex technology in order to deliver long blade life across a variety of metals and cutting applications, the company says.

The new carbide grade tip has increased toughness to retain a sharp cutting edge. The Honex process pre-hones the cutting edge in order to minimize chipping and help eliminate the break-in process. Other features that enhance performance include a multi-chip tooth design that balances chip load and reduces cutting forces; a moderately aggressive rake angle for easy penetration and balanced wear; and precision-ground carbide tips with clean, sharp edges that deliver smooth parts and quiet cutting.

The Versa Pro blade will be available in a range of widths to fit the majority of carbide-friendly band saws.

Small Inserts Reduce Cost

Iscar’s Flashturn Eco line includes small-sized Isoturn inserts said to provide decreased cost per cutting edge. The inserts are available in a range of geometries, corner radii, chipformers and Sumo Tec carbide grates. WNMG 33, WNMX 34, CNMG 33, CNMX 34, SNMG 33, DNMG 33, TNMG 33 and TNMX 34 geometries are available. The inserts are generally thicker than standard inserts in the same sizes, therefore increasing durability while running at feed rates similar to the larger inserts, the company says.

The 3/8" inscribed circle inserts with WNMG 33 geometry, for example, can cover turning applications shoulder milling cutters in depths of cut ranging from 0.03" tungsten carbide inserts to 0.12". According to the company, this range accounts for about 75 percent of turning applications, and the insert is capable of handling these applications with reduced costs over the ½" inscribed circle insert size.

CNC Software Incorporates Tool Management Solutions

HCL Technologies has incorporated the Zoller TMS Tool Management Solutions Interface into its CAMWorks software. The Zoller interface supplies customers with advanced tool database management options and an overview of available tools while eliminating the need to maintain multiple tool databases.

With the Zoller Interface in CAMWorks, tool data is standardized and the exchange of data between the two software Carbide Milling Inserts systems is automated. Customers can enter the information for their cutting tools once into the central Zoller tool database and the tools are imported automatically into CAMWorks. All tool parameters are captured, including contour line for holder and cutter, specific tool type as well as technology data, such as feeds and speeds.

The interface also allows users to define tools in the Zoller TMS Tool Management Solutions software with the same tool types and parameters that are being used in CAMWorks. Once a part model is programmed, the Zoller interface generates a setup sheet that includes a list of tools used for the part. The setup sheet is designed to assist with tool assembly, measurement and sending measured values to the machine for cutting the parts. The Zoller gravity turning inserts interface in CAMWorks is designed to decrease manual entry of tool data and streamline tool management.

Tungsten Carbide is the hardest material next to diamond

SOLARRI tungsten carbide watches are Carbide Turning Inserts hand polished with diamond dust to a microscopically smooth, astonishing, and everlasting mirror shine. This shine is so astonishing due to the interplay of reflected and refracted light, that only seeing one in person can do it any justice. SOLARRI’s tungsten watches also display the natural 5% tint of Titanium color- characteristic of the carbon when mixed with tungsten. At a 5,200° melting point, SOLARRI tungsten carbide watches necessitate a proprietary method of manufacture. Due to the incredible and laborious processes necessary to properly Cemented Carbide Inserts create such a watch, others can only poorly imitate the look.

SOLARRI’s new line of genuine tungsten carbide watches are at the absolute forefront of watch design, quality and durability. SOLARRI watches embody ultra modern flare with homage to classic roots. Add in a genuine Swiss movement, and the ideal watch is conjured.
