Support Blade Style Tooling Cuts Internal Face Grooves

Thinbit has expanded its Deepgroove line of Carbide Milling Inserts support blade-style tooling with tools  designed to cut internal face grooves with major diameters starting at 1.574" and depths of cut ranging to 1". The Deepgrove system uses modular cutting heads and clamps and can easily be reconfigured for different diameter ranges and insert sizes, the company says. Inserts are available in 2-, 3-, 4-, 5- and 6-mm sizes, with a variety of coating and corner radius options. Shanks are available as left- or right-hand orientation shoulder milling cutters in 20- and 25-mm or ¾" and 1” diameters. The round shanks also accept OD/parting and external face grooving heads.

App Connects Tool Presetter to Machine Control

Koma Precision’s Elbo Controlli tool presetter app is available turning inserts for aluminum through the Okuma App Store. The app is designed to increase cutting accuracies and Milling inserts shop efficiency. It enables users to easily measure a tool’s radius and length and then directly send the offsets to the Okuma OSP-P control to update the local tool offset table. Physical measurements can be completed with the tool offset number and wear values. Once a valid measure is received from the presetter, the program will either allow data to be sent to the controller or will cancel the operation.

The app requires an Okuma machining center equipped with an OSP-P300 controller, an Elbo Controlli presetter such as the Sethy Six running software version 2.4 or above, and a valid network connection.

Solid Carbide End Mills Improve Chip Evacuation

Haimer’s Power Mill solid carbide end mills are made from fine-grain carbide and are equipped with the company’s Safe-Lock shank pull-out protection system. The end mill geometries are based on an unequal flute and helix design for chatter-free machining. All tools are coated with PVD and feature a smooth surface for improved chip evacuation. According to Haimer, the end mills offer a runout of 5 microns, and all shanks are based to an h5 tolerance.

The Power Mill portfolio includes tools with cutting diameters ranging from 2 to 20 mm and to 1". Tools are available with three, four and five cutting edges and with multiple lengths of cut. In addition, different cutting edge solutions such as sharp, chamfer and radius edges surface milling cutters are offered, in tungsten carbide inserts addition to a roughing geometry with a cord profile.

Retention Knobs Cut Down on Toolholder Expansion

JM Performance Products Inc.’s high-torque retention knobs are designed to eliminate toolholder expansion, which can cause vibration, chatter, runout, poor finishes and poor tolerances in CNC milling. The knob design incorporates a relief beneath the pilot and reaches deeper into the thicker cross-section of the holder’s threaded bore. As a result, all thread engagement is said to occur in a region of the toolholder where the thicker cross-section resists deformation.

The knobs are hard turned to ensure their fit and are balanced with threads cut to start and finish 180 degrees from each other. The company BTA deep hole drilling inserts says that Cemented Carbide Inserts the knobs improve tool performance, even in harsh environments, increase tool life by at least 20 percent, improve finishes, shorten cycle times, and increase productivity.

Tungaloy's TCL18 Chipbreaker Minimizes Cutting Forces with TetraMini Cut Grooving Tool

The TCL18-style chipbreaker for Tungaloy’s TetraMini-Cut line of grooving inserts is designed to minimize cutting force. The chipbreaker is said to ensure light cutting action as DCMT Insert well as good chip control Deep Hole Drilling Inserts when turning at low feed rates. The insert is coated in AH7025, a nano-multilayer PVD coating with high aluminum content that provides hardness and adhesion to the grade for better process security during grooving operations.

TetraMini-Cut features a compact grooving insert with four cutting edges. According to the company, the security of the insert clamping system contributes to repeatability, accuracy and more predictable tool life.  The system’s insert clamping mechanism ensures secure insert retention and high repeatability, the company says, promising machining accuracy and more predictable tool life.
